Who doesn’t like dessert? Who does not like to sit with the family or friends to enjoy a well-made sweet treat accompanied with a fresh fruit juice, a tea or a coffee? Hanaffan and I are the first ones when sugar is involved and his family is not far behind!.

I have seen in Germany and specially in Hanafan’s family house, that people like to sit together every afternoon to have a piece of cake and tea. This is a sacred moment that mixed with the chats and the sweet treats creates an environment of union and comradery. This is something that Iso, Hanaffan’s mama coordinates with careful attention and that we all love.

On our last visit to Germany Hanaffan told me that when he was a child, he used to live in a house where they were several plum trees. Every summer his mother harvested the fruits and baked countless plum cakes. The memories of his childhood mixed with the smells and flavors of the ending summer, inspired him to recreate for the family the so infallible delicacy, which by the way is also a well known German traditional dessert around the world.
So, guided a bit by his mother, Hanaffan to captivate us with a new creation. The result was spectacular! And as Peter, the father of Hanaffan doesn’t eat plums, he took some ripe pears to make him a portion, which despite being improvised was also delicious.

We all loved the final result!. It tasted fabulous served warm with a bit of cream on the top and complemented with coffee with milk!

Here the ingredients

For the dough

200 grams of quark (the quark is a white beaten cheese of creamy texture, fresh aroma and slightly acidic taste. Highly used in the German cuisine)
6 tablespoons of milk
1 egg
100 gr of sugar
1sachet of vanilla sugar (called Vanillin in Germany)
1 pinch of salt
2 teablespoons  of  baking powder
400 g of wheat flour
For the topping
1 kg of plums, washed and cut in halves or quarters of halves.
Preparation:

Pass the quark through a sieve. Separately mix the milk, egg, sugar, the vanilin and half of the flour with baking powder and add it to quark. Mix well and add the remaining wheat flour until form a dough.

Preheat the oven to 200-220 C
Meanwhile you must oil and flour a large baking tray, place the dough over and spread it across the surface. Then, place plums in half and sprinkle with powdered sugar and if you want, chunks of almonds.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes and serve with cream.
